It is always a big decision as to how you support causes such as the Bushfire Recovery and with the media over the past few days, I am sure many are wondering how can they be assured their money is going to the right places.

After my involvement with the Black Saturday fires, I am more inclined to support grassroots groups or do something that truly helps those in need.

Wangaratta Rotary Club

The goal is to raise $100,000 to go to the kids that have been directly affected by the fire.  George Prothero of Alpine Truss is asking those in our industry who wish to donate to this worthy cause through the Appin Park Rotary Club of Wangaratta to make a donation via the details below.

Wildlife Shelters

I spoke with Wildlife Victoria and they have been inundated with donations of pouches and other goods, however, many Wildlife shelters work with their local Men’s Shed who, on their behalf, build Possum and Bird Boxes.

This is a great way that we can utilise our timber waste off-cuts whilst developing a relationship with your local Men’s Club, Wildlife Shelter or school groups to build much needed possum boxes.  Of course there will be a greater need for these at the moment, but they also sell the possum boxes to individuals to put around their properties so this is a great ongoing strategy that could help save wildlife plus assist in grassroots groups doing an outstanding job.

Given the spread of our membership, I thought it would be best if you searched for your local Men’s Shed or Wildlife Shelter and contacted them directly.  However if you wish to see what the recommended design is to build a possum box please click the button on the right.

Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund

The Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund is a fund that I have complete trust in and has raised money by public donation fundraising efforts during times of emergency.

With almost 40 years’ experience, GERF has well established procedures in handling public appeals for emergencies and their disbursements.

To donate to GERF please do so directly via their website.
