If you are a timber system designer or support development of skills in timber system design in our local industry, you are invited to comment on two new qualifications. These qualifications are the Certificate III in Timber Systems Design and the Certificate IV in Timber Systems Design. They will replace the current timber frame and truss qualifications.
Your views are critical to ensure that the development of technical skills meets industry needs.
The proposed new qualifications have been streamlined to focus on the key skills people need to work as an estimator or senior detailer in our sector.
This includes a new unit for timber system designers to develop and apply knowledge in the processes of timber systems design and working effectively with a broad range of individuals and teams.
For timber frame and truss fabricators, you will benefit from changes which allow you to focus on technical skills related to a particular job function, rather than the complete end-to-end manufacturing process. These skills sets will provide credit toward a proposed new Certificate III in Timber Frame or Truss Manufacturing.
As a result of these changes four qualifications are proposed for deletion: Certificate II in Timber Truss and Frame Design and Manufacture, Certificate IV in Timber Truss and Frame Manufacture, Diploma of Timber Truss and Frame Manufacture, Diploma of Timber Truss and Frame Design. Please let us know if you support the removal of these qualifications.
