FTMA Australia was stoked to be invited by our Queensland Members Porters Mitre 10 to set up at the Porters Trade Expo 2023 in Mackay earlier this month.
It was decided to take our Carbon Warrior message to the Trade Expo to see what builders thought of our message. Nikita designed a great display with facts including:
- 40% of the world’s emissions come from the built environment.
- The average timber framed home stores around 8 tonnes of CO2 for life.
- Did you know, your timber framed home grows back in just 150 seconds!
We challenged delegates to help create a greener future by choosing timber and we were pleased that they all agreed with us with many having a lot to say.
The Porters Trade Expo has run successful events over the past few years, with this year’s event attracting 1000+ customers from across the Mackay and Whitsunday region including builders, plasterers, painters, plumbers, designers, and guests from Master Builders & Master Plumbers.
With over 70 industry suppliers showcasing their products, services, and messages, plus the bonus of $25,000 in giveaways, this event was Porters biggest trade expo yet and the Mackay Entertainment Centre was buzzing from the moment the doors opened.
At the Carbon Warrior stand, we asked builders who liked using timber, to participate in an interview about the benefits of using timber and receive a free Carbon Warrior Tee. The feedback from the builders was brilliant, with all commenting on how timber was easy to use, had great environmental credentials and was their preferred building material.
Some builders approached us to pick a fight, as they thought we were a green group trying to lock up their resource, but when they realised who we were, and what message we were spruiking, they were not only onboard, but had plenty of positive timber tales to tell us.

We are pleased to announce that Bunnings has also provided free attendance at their future trade expos to spread the Carbon Warrior message and we look forward to attending the Perth Bunnings Expo on the 16 November.
