About the Timber Circularity Project

The Timber Circularity Project is focused on identifying circular pathways for preservative treated timber and engineered wood products (EWP) to keep timber out of landfill. The Australian government is driving the move towards a circular economy (CE) by 2030 and finding reuse and recycling solutions for end-of-life timber resources is key to meeting these goals. Understanding the resource available, logistics options and regulatory frameworks for end-of-life resources provides a better understanding of solution requirements, enabling integration of the resource into a circular economy.

Mapping the Resources Across Australia

The Timber Circularitory Project has published a national geospatial resource map, that will assist in finding solutions for timber recycling.

For months the research team have been meticulously gathering data to collate the information into an easy to navigate tool. FTMA has fully supported this project, and the data collections from frame and truss fabricators has helped in acheiving this valuable resource.

The official launch happened on 27th February, with an online webinar, to fully explain what the map can do, and the importance of it. Australian government has comitted to a circular economy by 2030, and the map is a vital step in identifying current resources, solutions, and linking options.

As well as every frame and truss fabricator in the country, the map lists the locations of licenced landfill options, vineyard posts, engineered wood resources and solutions, transfer stations,  and more…

With aproximately 60% of end-of-life timber going to landfill, it is critical to find alternatives.

Providing funding and support to the Timber Cicrularity Project is a major part of FTMA continuing to support the frame and truss industry at large. This important project is identifying solutions for the future, which ultimately will assist the industry to comply with a circular economy model, and with the view of identifying waste solutions that will reduce landfill costs to fabricators.

We encourage everyone to click on the map below, and explore the features. If you have any questions, it is important to watch the webinar above, and as always, contact Kersten Gentle.
