With the withdrawal of PEFC and FSC from Russia due to the Ukraine war, it is difficult to buy legally sourced material out of Russia. Furthermore, the indirect channels still sourcing from Russia or even “new” Larch species via China for example, have proven to be a minefield when it comes to surety of origin and legality.

It is well known that Meyer Timber has already made the decision to suspend all Larch species post the “conflict wood” start date in March 2022, and this in our opinion is the most sensible way to safeguard our legal and sustainable obligations to market.

Beyond the Legal and Sustainable safeguards, there are of course important Compliance standards ongoing that must also be met in the manufacturing of structural LVL, and this too requires experience combined with inhouse engineering expertise to ensure the product will perform for its intended application.

The market has been without doubt severely undersupplied throughout 2021/2022 and the knock-on effect has resulted in the opening of many new trading channels that require good due diligence to ensure safeguarding the market.

It also is clear that the market is now looking for a rebirth of previous service models that include

  • Full size range.
  • All long length options.
  • Job Lots and Pack Stock.
  • High level service with stable pricing.
  • Consistent branding and identification.
