Following on from the recent 2024/25 budget announcement, it is clear there will be next to no relief for businesses when it comes to paying their power bills (a $325 rebate for one million Australian businesses…) For a business already struggling it gives a pretty clear indication that although Australia is in the worst energy crisis it’s ever been in, the Government has little to no power to actually take control of prices, leaving businesses to take control themselves.

The energy market is constantly changing and trying to keep up to date with these changes whilst running a business, keeping costs down and increasing margins is a challenging process. Choice Energy is an expert energy consultancy specialising in energy procurement and management which means for our members, they don’t just source you a good deal and let you go, they follow up with major market updates, contacting members when their contracts are due to expire to pre-secure a new contract at the best possible price, so it is one less thing to worry about as a business owner.

Before engaging with Choice Energy, one of FTMA members, BB Truss & Timber, was being affected by rising power costs of approx. $80,000 per annum. Choice Energy identified that a turnkey commercial solar system paired with fitting LED lighting in the production plant, would help to reduce the business’ energy expenditure substantially and further reduce the business’ carbon footprint. Rather than paying the energy retailer for metering and getting no value back, BB Truss & Timber had an independent meter installed at no extra cost and now have Choice Energy validating the accuracy of its monthly bills. Choice Energy now performs network cost reviews to ensure BBTT is always on the optimum tariff.

Given there will be little to no energy pain relief for the foreseeable future, it’s important members can remain competitive, and energy costs is one thing they can take more control of.
