Without doubt, the Queensland Women in Forest and Timber Network have been the most active women’s network in our industry nationally.

They have supported women in Queensland with workshops and networking events for many years. One of their awesome events is the WFTN Brisbane Cocktails for Charity event, which was held on Saturday 9 September in Fortitude Valley.

The recipient for this year’s Cocktails for Charity event was the Micah Project’s Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS).

Micah Projects’s BDVS is committed to supporting Brisbane woman and children, to ensure they feel safe and free from fear of domestic and family violence. Their Brisbane Domestic Violence Service team is a first port of call for woman and children experiencing or at risk of experiencing domestic and family violence.

BDVS provides information and referral, crisis support, practical assistance, advocacy, counselling and emotional support. They work to provide a safe environment in which people can access services to meet their needs – over the phone, online, or via in-person visits in the home or at a nominated safe place.

Guest speakers Ria Wong and Tracey were exceptionally detailed in sharing their stories, which touched all in attendance ensuring everyone dug deep for this worthy cause.

“We put a call out to industry to assist us in putting together the event with majority of the funds going straight towards the charity and we were blown away by the support” Jacinta Colley, Vida Wood and WFTN Committee member commented.

Before walking through the door, the cocktails for charity event had already raised $16,500. Alicia Langfield, NTHA formally welcomed guests and put the challenge out to break the $20K mark through purchasing raffle tickets and 2 auction prizes.

Carbon Warrior were proud to be Bronze Sponsors of this wonderful event, and Nikita and I thoroughly enjoyed the event and networking.

We would like to do a huge shout out to WFTN QLD Event Committee -Jacinta Colley from VIDA Wood, Jenni Day from Versace Timbers, Alicia Langfield (nee Oelkers) & Tahlia Bellotti from NTHA – who were instrumental in this event being the success it was.
