A few months ago, I was stoked to hear that Glen & Faye Phillips of Country Truss sold their business and would be retiring from the industry after 40+ years in the frame and truss sector.
Glen joined the industry around 1979, when as a young chippy, he joined the original Melbourne Truss & Frame, working with Bob Stubbs (who later formed Prefab Technology with Raymond Gurney).
They were based in Rosebank Avenue in Clayton at the time, but sometime later the plant was bought by Smith Brothers who subsequently moved it to their main operation in Wellington Road, Mulgrave.
Glen managed the plant for some years under the guidance of John Broome before leaving to work onsite, installing trusses and frames for a number of plants in the mid to late 90’s.
Glen and Faye along with Faye’s brother Jim Dinsdale then set up Country Truss in 1988 in Packenham. Jim was the factory foreman, and all the managing and detailing was done by Glen. They were a great team and over the years they have established a dedicated local client base, who I am sure will be disappointed to see Glen and Faye retire.
Glen has been involved in the industry for 45 years and he and Faye have been great supporters of the FTMA since early days of the Victorian Roof Truss & Wall frame Association and signed on as members of FTMA when we launched in 2007, remaining members ever since.
FTMA wishes Glen & Faye all the best in their retirement and thank them for their involvement and passion over the past 45 years.
