Tuesday afternoon I received many calls from concerned FTMA members who had heard that Wesbeam had a fire at their plant. The only media report we could find, unfortunately was a little dramatic in their description of the fire which had many in the industry on edge.
Luckily, the team at Wesbeam were quick with the comm’s. Below is a copy of what James Malone, Wesbeam CEO has sent to customers, which they kindly shared with FTMA News.
We are pleased that no one was injured. Well done to the Wesbeam team and local fire brigades for their quick action.
You may be aware of the news report that Wesbeam’s plant was subject to a fire incident yesterday.
The news reports I have seen were not accurate and on that basis I thought it would be helpful to provide you with an update.
Wesbeam’s state of the art facility based in Perth is Australia’s only LVL and I-joist manufacturer.
Our machinery and production safety systems are designed and operate to world class standards.
Yesterday’s fire incident occurred in a dust filter external to the main facility.
The fire was quickly supressed and extinguished by our interconnected fire management systems.
Our production team implemented well drilled procedures in a professional manner.
Much of our production centres recommenced production last night.
We anticipate all items of plant returning to full production within the next day or two.
As mentioned in my message of last week, we have significantly increased production of e-beam and e-joist and have been shipping at elevated levels.
Thank you for your continued support of Australia’s LVL and I joist manufacturer.
Regards
James Malone | CEO
